Kim Harwood Miller

Washington D.C.
Violinist
Married, 2 children

Born in 1955.

My family lives in a suburb of Washing DC. I am 43 years old, married for twenty years and have two children, Natasha, who is at the Wharton School of Business at the U. of Pennsylvania and Geoffrey, who is in 8th grade.

My wife and I are both violinists in the White House Chamber Orchestra. We perform for virtually every social event at the White House and this orchestra is an offshoot of the Marine Band, "The President's Own".

One other KIM said he took the taunting as a kid having a girl's name. I too suffered a similar fate. And to top it off I played the violin. To compensate I made it my mission to excel in all sports which I love. However, in my community in Jaxsonville Fla., we had 3 boys named KIM all living near one another. Quite unusual. Since then though, I haven't really known another guy KIM even though paths occasionally have crossed. A golf pro in Baltimore and believe it or not, when I played a concert at a school in Alexandria Va. there was a male teacher there named KIM MILLER whom I met.

Most of the KIMs referred to Kiplings novel and again this is also my case. My Dad wanted a name to have a certain characteristic. That being that it wouldn't be converted to some kind of a nickname. For some reason that bothered him. Bobby for Robert, Ted for Edward and so on. so KIM was short and sweet. My brothers names are Mark, Brian and get this....JAN. Do you believe that!!!!!? OK so my parents had 4 boys and I was the 3rd one, I have wondered about how badly they wanted a girl. I know for a fact that this indeed was what they wanted but NNNNOOOOO!!!

I actually have considered my name a curse and for these reasons which will ring true to all of us KIMs:

The list goes on and on and I am sure that all KIMs have a favorite story in this regard, I have many more, in fact I propose to you to make this one of your major areas of "GUYS NAMED KIM"-----You could call it "annoyances of being a GNK" or something similar. Now after all of that grumbling I must admit also that having an unusual name does have it's advantages. You are easily remembered because you have a girls name (anyone laughing yet?). There is a certain amount of intrigue with this name although not quite up to the level of PEEKABOO Street!

Thank you for this web site, I hope it works out. Sounds like fun!
