I think my father quite liked 'Tim' but my mother thought it began with 'too hard a sound'. My conservative english grandmother then suggested 'Kim' which is rather surprising really! After childhood years of disliking being called 'Kimberley' etc, I am now completely un-bothered by it, and get called a range of things including 'Kimpton' which is a small town near where I live. And now when people ask what Kim is short for I reply 'too clever by half' or 'greatest man alive' etc.....
